WaPo Misleads on Doug Feith Report
HT Flopping Aces

Scott Malensek has written this response to the recent WaPo article on the findings of the Pentagon's Inspector General's investigation on Doug Feith of the DoDs Office of Special Plans under Secretary Rumsfield. RBT previously posted Scott's rebuttal to the Senate Intel Co's Phase II Report.

Doug Feith Found INNOCENT-Pentagon Inspector General
Posted by Scott Malensek on April 7, 2007 at 2:55 AM

A few months ago, a long-awaited investigation into former Undersecretary of Defense, Doug Feith and his Office of Special Plans was finally concluded.

(Dept of Defense Inspector General Report)

The Department of Defense had been asked by Democrats in Congress to see if Feith and/or his office had done anything illegal in their investigation and reports regarding the depth of ties between Al Queda and Saddam Hussein’s regime. The Department of Defense’s interim Inspector General said essentially that Feith and his office had acted inappropriately by giving the impression that they were an intelligence agency, but that they had not acted illegally. He was innocent of the charges made by Congressional Democrats and opponents of the war in Iraq.

Both groups of accusers had claimed that Feith and his office had manipulated, cherry-picked, and otherwise distorted real intelligence reports to form conclusions that were not real, and that those conclusions were then used to mislead the Bush Administration and/or Congress via claims from the Bush Administration. Some of the things reported by Feith and his office were later determined to either not have been based on reliable intelligence, were simply not true after all, or weren’t as bad as expected, but on the other hand, most of the examples of ties between Saddam’s regime and Al Queda which he and his office had reported did in fact turn out to be true. Still, even today, Congressional Democrats, opponents of the war, and too often traditional media claim that there were no ties whatsoever between Saddam’s regime and Al Queda.

[...]

The depth of ties between Saddam’s regime and Al Queda take a great deal of detail to describe. In the end, it's not whether there were 16,000 Al Queda fighters in Iraq (claimed in the book, Thunder Run), or 2-3000 (as in most tell alls from the troops who were in the invasion), or if there were just high level visits. It’s not whether Al Queda lost 4000 fighters in Iraq since the invasion as they claim or 7000 as the US military claims. The critical, most often, most deeply, and most deliberately ignored and distorted claim is that the war in Iraq somehow is completely off on its own little world from the war with Al Queda. Bin Laden's 1996 fatwa, and particularly his 2/98 fatwa describe his casus belli for reviving AQ and calling for a holy war of terror against Americans and American civilians. Both these declarations of holy war revolved around American action against Iraq. This isn’t because he had an affinity for Saddam or even for the Iraqi people. He was just a pissed off killer looking for an excuse for his actions, but IRAQ was his excuse; his reason for going to war and killing Americans. To pretend that Bin Laden decided to start killing Americans for any other reason is pure denial of reality and his own words.

FREE DOUG FEITH! Oh wait…he is free, because he didn’t commit a crime as claimed. He’s been found innocent.

Ray Robison - Cheney is absolutely right [Saddam's ties to AQ]

Cheney is absolutely right

MSN is reporting this morning that VP Cheney restated his position that Saddam had ties to al Qaeda. The fact is I had doubted the Zarqawi connection to Saddam in Iraq before the start of OIF. I was wrong. My research shows that Zarqawi was a Jordanian who led an Islamic jihad group (tawhid) that got its spiritual guidance from a man named Sheik Abu-Mohammed al-Maqdisi (or Isam Mohammad Taher al-Barqawi) a major al Qaeda leader. Barqawi is the one who sent Zarqawi to Iraq. Barqawi was one of tens of thousands of Palestinian-Jordanians who supported Saddam's occupation of Kuwait. When these Palestinians were kicked out of Kuwait for conspiring with Saddam, hundreds of thousands went to Jordan were were they set up jihad operations and joined with al Qaeda. This al Qaeda branch, the Jordanian based "jihad stream" from Kuwait was highly supportive of Saddam (because of his support to the Palestinians )and Barqawi sent them to Iraq to fight for Saddam. In fact, if you read our book, Both In One Trench, you will learn that the "returnees from Kuwait" were just one of the many 'portals' that Saddam used to support Islamic terrorism.

Morocco: Discovery of biological agents/GICM #2 arrested
By Olivier Guitta

Regarding the recent suicide attack in Casablanca on March 11 and the previous arrest of GICM #2 Saad Husseini, come the following two stories from The Croissant:

1- Discovery of biological agents in Morocco

[After the March 11 suicide bombing in a cybercafe in Casablanca and the multiple arrests, here is what was found at the bombers’ place]

The most worrying finding of Moroccan authorities is the discovery of chemicals that could have been used for large-scale terror attacks:

A microbial stock of “pathogenic Tetanus” cultivated by the terrorists was found in their hideout This agent could cause death within 24 hours if person not inoculated with anti tetanus serum

New bin Laden Video Expected

HT Dr. Rusty at The Jawa Report

New bin Laden Video Expected

Marvellous. Let's hope this is old footage, given a new spin. As-Sahab has been known to recycle bin Laden's speeches in the past, edited and translated by our own American traitor Adam Gadahn.

But if bin Laden's speech does include the recent Arab summit and talks about Hamas's new found role in the PA government, as the announcement claims, then this is bad news. Why? Because it means bin Laden is alive.

Needless to say we will bring you the full unedited video when it is finally released. There is also a distinct possibility that we will have the video before it is released to the public. Let's just say we know top people.

IRAQ - Losing the Media War by Michael Yon

I thought Michael Yon's comments very insightful re the MSM's lack of coverage from Iraq. It's not a slam against the MSM either. It provides useful observations re the media's needs that the military should be falling all over themselves to accommodate.

RUBS

(Raw Unedited, Barely Spellchecked)

I had occasion to read through the comments on the last few RUBS dispatches and I noticed, with appreciation, all the notes from families of soldiers in the 1-4 Cav, who were glad to see something, finally, about their sons, husbands and dads and the critical mission they are undertaking in Baghdad. Many lamented on how rare this kind of news is, and wanted me to know how valuable it is for them. There were also a lot of comments from people new to the site, making the point that they were hungry for news from the ground here; many were angry at “mainstream media” for failing to provide it more regularly.

Someone from Fox News called me a few nights ago, saying Fox had to turn down a two-week embed due to security reasons. Not security reasons meaning that they might get shot or blown up, but security reasons that their gear might get stolen on base. I have written before about how, even now into the 5th year of the war in Iraq, there are still are no dedicated resources —particularly, secure places for press to live and work so that they can launch off into combat embeds—on the major bases in Baghdad. Fox News, faced with staying in tents with itinerant workers who today might be in Baghdad, and tomorrow in Calcutta or Los Angeles (with someone else’s gear), turned down a two-week embed with our forces. ABC no longer embeds with combat forces due to the sheer danger of the combat, and now Fox has no plans to embed until at least May, simply due to security and workspace on the bases themselves.
Senior Public Affairs officers have shamelessly claimed the lack of living quarters and workspace is due to the “surge.” This fails to explain why there were no such provisions made in 2003. Or 2004. Or 2005. Or 2006. Of course, now in 2007, they have a convenient excuse, and a false either/or: “Would you throw a soldier out of a trailer just so you could have one?” Never a combat soldier, but maybe it would be acceptable to take the place of one of the music bands they unfailingly find room for. Or the sexy cheerleaders and the burly, rich football players and so on and so forth, which of course Public Affairs will say is for morale purposes. To answer the question which soldiers might be thrown-out to make room for a few journalists, how about tossing out a few portly generals who after four solid-years at war haven’t found some accounting dust in the hundreds of billions of dollars spent here to get a few extra trailers and dedicate them for media? If half this battle is being fought in the media, why isn’t one-tenth of one-tenth of one tenth of one-tenth of the budget spent on that half of the war? Maybe if they build it, the media will come; at least, the news team from Fox will be there.
