As an old shopworn economic crimes investigator, I can't seem to get away from the old adage, follow the money, honey!, to explain behaviors and motivations that appear at first glance appear to be incongruent.

RBT was fascinated and riveted by an article that appeared sometime ago at The American Thinker , Joseph Wilson IV: The French Connection. In short the Plame-Wilson Affair was a high level French intel services' disinformation campaign to CYA high level French politicos by shifting the heat to and discrediting President Bush. Mind you the French followed by the Russians and the Chinese in that order were highest receivers of money from the UN Oil for Food Scandal. Saddam was raking in money hand over fist on both ends of this program. Do you suppose there is a connection with these countries who are permanent members of the UN Security Council and their veto votes to hold Saddam accountable?

Mind you it was the French Ambassador who pulled the rug out from under and knifed Secretary of State Colin Powell in the back before his address to the UN on Iraq. And yes, RBT believes that Saddam's WMD went to Syria with the assistance of the Russians during the run up to the latest Iraq War from the investigative work done by Ray Robison, Scott Malensek, and Mark Eichenlaub.

LONG-STANDING rumours that the former French president Jacques Chirac holds a secret multi-million-euro bank account in Japan appear to have been confirmed by files seized from the home of a senior spy.

Papers seized by two investigating magistrates from General Philippe Rondot, a former head of the DGSE, France's intelligence service, show Mr Chirac opened an account in the mid-1990s at Tokyo Sowa Bank, credited with the equivalent of £30 million. It is not known where the money came from, nor whether it is connected to various kick-back scandals to which Mr Chirac's name has been linked over the past decade.

Last year, Mr Chirac "categorically denied" having a bank account in Japan.

The seized documents have been described by the magistrates as "explosive" and are believed to contain copies of the former president's bank statements.

A magistrate close to the investigation told the satirical magazine Le Canard Enchaîné: "Subject to verification of the documents, there is enough material to open a new judicial investigation for breach of trust or for possession of money received from corruption. Moreover, the investigating judges have everything necessary to trace the network back to its ringleaders."

Mr Chirac, who was succeeded by Nicolas Sarkozy last week after 12 years as president, looks certain to be questioned about the account - as well as several other alleged corruption scandals dating from his time as mayor of Paris - when his presidential immunity runs out on 16 June.

Update:

Seems as though French's former Prime Minister De Villepin, Chirac's righthand man, now implicated in planting false info using French Intel Officer. Could this be related to the planted papers re the Niger yellow cake story that underlies the Plame/Wilson Affair? Mind you in an Italian court an operative admitted the source of the forged docs were French hands. Is this a corroboration of the the story that the Niger yellow cake story was a disinformation operation by French Intel to discredit Bush to CYA high French govt officials e.g, Chirac and De Villepin?

The American Thinker is linking to RBT's yst post re the discovery that former French prime minister Daniel de Villepin linked to forged documents with French intel agent to frame the new French President Sarkozy in 2004. Could there be a similar connection to the infamous forged documents in the Niger yellow cake connection that underlies the Plame/Wilson Affair?

Remember how many media libs swooned over former French prime minister Daniel de Villepin? He published poetry! He wrote a book about Napoleon! He dressed in fancy suits and was oh, so sophisticated. Not like you-know-who, the guy who makes self-styled sophisticated Americans cringe in embarrassment.

Many conservatives heartily despised de Villepin and his boss President Chirac, recognizing them as hypocritical libs, and smarting over French betrayal in the UN Security Council. Evidence is now accumulating that conservatuives were right all along.

The U.K. Telegraph has published an account of a devious plot by de Villepan and French president Chirac to smear their hated rival (and now French president) Sarkozy, back when he was interior minister in 2004.
